After the phone call with the “client”, I got a first impression of what he wanted.
The documents about the company and the vehicles he promised me have arrived.
It’s quite a motley crew in terms of training and schooling. Some with JSH level education.
But what does JSH level mean?
I can’t ask again, what can someone with 9 years of JSH do and what is JSH. How good that there is Google, I thought to myself.
Unfortunately, Google doesn’t provide any useful results. But that could also mean junior high school, which would make sense. Ninth grade Hauptschule isn’t bad, you can build on it.
Until I spoke to Frank on the phone. Frank is at the Department of Automotive Engineering at TUM, he visited a university in Central Africa some time ago for a research project with Africa. But not just any university, but as he says “cutting edge”, so it sounds promising. During the on-site visit, you found out that the study content in Africa is at a different level than at TUM. Well, TUM is a university of excellence and is already one of the best there is.
But after Frank’s story, I have to go back to the JSH level. This is not the same as what we can expect in Germany after 9 years of school. The pupils in Africa can’t help it, I think many of them are happy if there is a school and if they have the possibility of education at all. But they are certainly much better at improvising than we are.
I had asked the client for the highest school education or profession, because I want to get an idea of where to start with the training.
Now I simply make a step-by-step plan with different modules, and simply skip modules if the colleagues in Africa already know all that. You just have to be flexible and react ad hoc to what you find on the ground.
I will start with “Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering” and “Simple Circuit and Ohm’s Law”. What are circuit diagrams and how do you read circuit diagrams, then measurement and measuring devices. If they already know all this, the colleagues are happy that they already know a lot and I am happy that there is a good basis to build on. But if they don’t know how to measure current, voltage or resistance, then I have a problem.
Don’t help, just relax and make the best of it.
The second thing I got was the service documents for the vehicles. It doesn’t look that complicated, and I can understand it.
