Project Ghana

Hand over Certificate

Some of the participants had already asked me if I could also hand them a certificate.
This turned into a real ceremony.
The whole thing was planned for Tuesday at 10 am. I received invitations for the date from three people independently of each other – so this was very important to them!
Ganesh had ordered me for 10:00 am, Pascal for 10:30 am; at least in the same room. But after 8 weeks of experience, I wasn’t really surprised anymore. At 10, Samartex has a breakfast break; that’s like the holy bread time in Bavaria. You just don’t make an appointment there. When it finally started it was 11 o’clock.
We all gathered in the large meeting room, which is usually only used by top management. Present were all the participants, Ganesch the HR manager and me.
Then it became really formal, after a few introductory words from Ganesh, he looks at Pascal. Pascal tells us something about training; the poor guy was a bit run over, because it wasn’t agreed upon. Nevertheless, he managed it really well. Then a question to the participants if anyone else would like to contribute something. But it was more a question about how to proceed. That’s when Ganesh remembered my recommendation. He sent Mike – one of his staff to his office to get the printout. I had my laptop with me, but I didn’t think it was wise to contradict the boss. After 5 minutes Mike came back with the printout. Then he explained in front of the whole team that from today on there will be a group of electricians with the participants of the training and Pascal will be the team leader. Pascal was speechless at first, because he had expected a lot, but not his “promotion”. In the past, I have experienced such things in a more coordinated way in my professional activities.
Then Ganesh takes the 3 pages and gives them to Pascal, asking him to read them out. I could have said it to everyone by heart, it’s also mine, but here too it was smarter to just let it run.
At the end, Ganesh said, “That’s it, let’s do it now!” (All recommendations will be implemented.)
I was really flabbergasted, because I had not expected that.
I was then allowed to do the final part of the speeches.
Then it was time for the personal presentation of the certificates.

Thomas, Ganesh and I presented the training certificate to each participant individually. This was something very special, as there are no other trainings and certainly no certificates.
